Earlier this month, the fans of the Australian Rules football team, Port Adelaide Power, were saddened when they learned of the Las Vegas Casino death of 22-year old midfielder, John J-Mac McCarthy. Mr. McCarthy came to Las Vegas at the end of the Australian Rules football season with ten teammates to party and have a good time. Mr. McCarthy was partying with his team mates in early September at the Wynn Casino. At one point, he got separated from his friends and walked to the Flamingo Casino. Intoxicated and lost in a strange city far from home, Mr. McCarthy called his girlfriend, Dani Samarrelli, in Australia to chat as he searched in vain for his friends. After the phone call, concerned about Mr. McCarthy, Ms. Smarrelli called one of Mr. McCarthy’s Port Adelaide Power teammates. The team mate then called Mr. McCarthy who stated he was fine and headed back to the Wynn Casino. Hours later, Mr. McCarthy’s body was found near the southern entrance of the Las Vegas Flamingo. Mr. McCarthy died in a Las Vegas casino accident when he fell from the 3rd floor of the hotel. The area that Mr. McCarthy fell from was not normally accessible by the public, but was used by Flamingo Casino employees for smoke breaks.
