Beating Blackjack Is It Possible
Besides the Slot Machines, Blackjack is one of the most popular casino games in the world. Experienced gamblers say that blackjack is one of the few casino card games where the player has a chance at winning. So is it possible to beat blackjack? Everytime? No. But there are a few things to remember that can greatly increase your odds of walking away with at least some of the money you started with if not winning more. We are going to look at a few of those things now.
First, remember that it is not your goal to -get to 21′ in order to win at blackjack. Your goal is to simply beat the dealer (and the other players). And while the house has a slight advantage in the game, there are steadfast rules that every dealer must abide by. The dealer must hit if his two cards are 16 or less. That is a tremendous advantage for the player! So a player with a card total of 12 can beat the dealer!
For example, if the dealer’s up card is a 5, even with a 10, Jack, King or Queen, his total will be 15, with an Ace, 16. He has to hit on that. That increases his odds of busting, or going over 21. Here is where a good review of the cards in a deck will help. There are 52 cards in each standard deck. The numbers 2 through 10 are represented in four different suits. (Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs and Spades) = 36 cards. Then there are the Face cards: the Jack, Queen and King each at a value of ten also in four different suits. = 12 cards. Finally there are the Aces, again in four suits, the Ace is valued at either 1 or 11, depending on what the player wants to play it as. = 4 cards.
In a game where only one deck is being used, (some casinos use card shoes with six or more decks shuffled inside) it’s a matter of simple mathematics. If the dealer’s up card is 6 or lower the best card he can get (an Ace) would give him 17. He would have to hit on the 17. At the beginning of the game, the only cards he could draw would be 4’s or lower. Out of the 52 cards, only 16 of them will not bust him immediately. (2’s, 3’s, 4’s and Aces)
That means that there is a 69% chance of the dealer busting on the first card he draws. As the game progresses, reducing the number of cards in the deck it’s a matter of keeping track of the faces and aces. There are 16 of those. Once they are used, (or their numbers depleted), the decisions you make as a player become easier. Count each one that appears, keep track of it mentally, if you can count to 16 you can do this.
If towards the end of this casino game, the lower cards have been depleted, you know there is a greater chance of busting if you hit on a total of eleven or higher. Keep practicing with the mental counting and you will eventually be ready to begin learning basic blackjack strategy. If you want to try and learn, you can try Blackjack online for fun.
